The Studio Awards regards its training and career advancement opportunities as valuable beyond measure. It is of the utmost importance to us that our services are made available to those who could otherwise not afford them. With this in mind, it is our goal to partner with community leaders in order to broaden the reach of our programming. We wish to connect 60 Richmond area youth (from 8 - 18) with community leaders that will support their artistic growth by sponsoring their training at TSA. By partnering with community outreach/art programs, that teach; poetry, videography, performance, and dance, we can easily find the children that need us the most. The ones putting in the time with their school and their art. But most importantly the ones with mentors around them to help them throughout the journey. In the end, we all have provided youth with local industry resources. All the while leaving local community centers and programs with more standardized industry training to teach more of their youth in the future. We have 30 studio slots available in total. We are reserving 6 of these slots for this Scholarship Program. A child cannot be directly sponsored through this program. Instead, the donor must identify a community center or after-school program that will receive the scholarship. The program leaders (at the center) will be responsible for choosing what children are sponsored. Visit https://www.thestudioawards.com/scholar-program for more information!

All The Studio Awards ages are determined as of January 1, 2022. For example, ages for November 2021 events will be as of January 1, 2022, and ages for April 2022 events will be as of January 1, 2022. Performers' Tour Audition numbers are generated for each specific age division, with all ages being as of January 1, 2022. Please review your The Studio Awards registration confirmation to ensure that the correct birthdate is on file and that performers receive an age-appropriate Tour Audition number. Studio owners may register performers for whichever workshop level they feel the performer will benefit from the most. However, ALL performers MUST be in the age-appropriate room during the Prodigy Audition Combo Class as well as the actual Prodigy Audition. Any performers auditioning with the wrong workshop level will not be eligible for any Prodigy Tour Promotions. When a performer wins a Tour Performance Slot with one studio, he/she cannot utilize it as an "independent" or with another studio, without the permission of the original studio owner. One-day students are not eligible for any Promotions. Independent performers are unable to receive Prodigy Tour Performance Slots but are eligible for all other Promotions. Tour Promotions are not transferable.

Division Average Age LIL 8-10 ROOKIE 11-12 TEEN 13-17 PRO 18+ All The Studio Awards ages are determined as of January 1, 2022. For example, the ages for November 2021 events will be as of January 1, 2022, and the ages for April 2022 events will be as of January 1, 2022. To reach the average age of an entry, add all the ages together and divide by the number of performers in the entry. When averaging ages always DROP THE DECIMAL POINT. For example, if a routine average is 12.7, you would drop the decimal, therefore the routine would compete in the 11-12 yr. old age category. The average age of each entry must not drop more than one age division below the age of the oldest dancer in the entry, regardless of the actual average age. For example, if an entry contains performers ranging in age from 9-17, the entry may not compete younger than the 13-15 age category (one division younger than the oldest dancer - 17). Any routine with a dancer 21 years of age or older must compete in the Pro age division (18+) regardless of the average age of the routine. Group routines with 4+ performers are allowed to "age up" only to the next age division. Names and ages of all performers must appear on the entry form or it will not be accepted. All competing performers must be prepared to present a birth certificate should a question arise.

To achieve the full The Studio Awards experience, we recommend performers participate with a reputable studio. We do acknowledge that in certain circumstances a performer is "independent." The Studio Awards defines independent performers as performers not associated with a physical studio or taking consistent classes as part of a structured program. We understand this rule is subjective, therefore any questions will be resolved at The Studio Awards Director's discretion. Independent performers can only be awarded in the "Independent" category in The Studio Awards Competition. The Studio Awards stage dimensions are 40’ x 30’, complete with additional wing space, marley, and mics.

A typical The Studio Awards weekend schedules Competition on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Thursday competition usually starts at 3 pm with Lil and then moves into Rookie, Teen, and Pro Solos. Duo/Trios then follow. Routines scheduled on Friday before 3:30 pm, that are unable to perform due to school, will be offered a full refund. There may be Group Competition on Friday starting after 3:30 pm. If this happens, we'll do our best to notify the studio at least two weeks prior. Group Competition will not be on Friday before 3:30 pm.

Audio files are accepted in MP3, WAV, M4A, or AIF format only, up to 50 MB each. We recommend MP3 format. Although we MUCH prefer music being uploaded prior to the event, we will still accept music at the event on a Flash Drive, if absolutely necessary. If submitting a Flash Drive at the event, please note that audio files are accepted in MP3, WAV, M4A, or AIF format only, up to 50 MB each. We recommend MP3 format. All Flash Drives must be submitted to the Info Desk onsite. All Flash Drives will be imported and run through a computer system at the competition. Whether uploading your music or bringing a Flash Drive to the event, ALWAYS have a backup in another format (like an iPod/iPhone) just in case! If playing your music off of your phone, please make sure the song is imported into your iTunes or media player. We will NOT be able to play any songs from an email or off the internet.

The Studio Awards realizes that art crosses a broad range of styles, tastes, and appropriateness. However, The Studio Awards is a family event and we are determined to set some sort of standard to make sure inappropriate routines are penalized or disqualified. At a minimum, these routines should not be rewarded with the highest scores of the competition. To handle this, The Studio Awards has set up a "Family Viewing" point system. It's simple: Each judge's score sheet has a check box on it, labeled "This routine might not be The Studio Awards friendly". For each judge that checks this box, there will be a 5 point deduction from a routine's total score. So, if three judges check this box, a routine's score would drop 15 points. If all four judges check the box, the routine will be disqualified. Again, this is not a perfect science. The Studio Awards' opinion might be too relaxed for some and too strict for others. We can only do what we think is right. This is a work in progress but we feel that it's a step in the right direction. As always, we welcome your feedback!

All entries will be adjudicated by 3-4 qualified judges. When there are four judges, the lowest score is automatically dropped. In the event that an entry is written, choreographed, or directed by one of the judges, that judge will only critique the entry and then their "score" will be the score that gets dropped. All ties will be broken by adding the fourth judge's score. If a tie remains after the addition of the fourth judge's score, the competition will be judged a tie. When there are only three judges, the lowest score will not be dropped. Platinum!!, High Gold, Gold, High Silver, Silver, and Bronze awards will be presented based on the following combined scores: UPPING THE BAR!! 291-300 The Bar 276-290 Gold 261-275 High Silver 246-260 Silver 231-245 Bronze 216-230 All UPPING THE BAR!!, The Bar, Gold, High Silver, and Silver award winners will be eligible for the 2022 The Studio Awards MIXTAPE!

BEST OF The Studio Awards (PRO) A select few PRO routines will be chosen, by consensus of the judges, to receive the BEST OF The Studio Awards Award. BEST OF The Studio Awards Awards are presented to the routines that the judges feel are, overall, the most technical AND entertaining solo, duo, trio, and group performances in each Competition Category. Depending on each studio’s overall results, some BEST OF The Studio Awards routines may be asked to perform again in the Closing Show. Each BEST OF The Studio Awards Award winner receives $250 worth of studio time! THE STUDIO AWARD The three studios will be chosen, by consensus of the judges, to perform 12 minutes in the weekend's Closing Show. It may be the highest scoring studios, it may not be. It is simply what the judges remembered and liked the most. To be eligible for THE STUDIO AWARD, a studio must have entered at least 10 entries.

A studio can only be represented by ONE routine in the Closing Show. This does not apply to THE STUDIO AWARD routines. When a studio doesn't have THE STUDIO AWARD ( or they have less than 10 routines entered in competition), preference goes to their highest-aged BEST OF The Studio Awards (if applicable). For example, if Studio A does not qualify for a THE STUDIO AWARD but receives Lil and Teen 1st Place awards, the 1st Place Teen routine will re-perform in the Closing Show.
